Return to the Tools of Applied Biblical Faith Scholarship
As Martin Selbrede recently pointed out in his recent essay, “Kingdom First! Blueprint for a Great Society,” seeking first means by way of priority. Such priority means as a way of life.
R J Rushdoony’s erstwhile partner Verna Hall, studied history on the grounds of God’s Providence to discover recurring patterns and themes. These provide, if we will relearn them, historic tools of applied Biblical scholarship for any area of human concern and endeavor. These tools, as they are rooted in Scripture, are at once spiritual—of the Holy Spirit—and practical.
Relearning these tools of Biblical thinking, a body of historic Scriptural wisdom really, promise to re-energize the body of Christ with renewed purpose. This is so because every area of life will contribute to Christ’s kingdom if we will self-consciously let God guide our every thought (Second Corinthians 10:5).
These historic scholarship tools offer means to dive deep in any subject. Yet in mastering their general principles, they also offer moment-to-moment, on-the-fly wisdom to Great Commission effect, in making the many ordinary decisions facing us daily.
These tools are available to the humblest learner courageously willing to walk by faith—be over one’s head for a moment. Then he will wield an amazingly powerful sword for Christ.
Who is willing?
